We all enjoy eating out. It’s a fun way to spend time with friends, family, and significant others. It’s also a must have if you are in business or any professional field where networking is important. It’s also the single biggest way to nuke a successful diet. Eating out is full of pitfalls, but if you’re smart, you can eat out and still lose weight.
The first step is to look up the menu online. Think about what you are going to eat before you get the restaurant. We all are subject to making poor choices when we are hungry. Start making the trade-off choices before you get to the restaurant. The less distracted you are the better.
Plan to eat half. Most restaurant portions are way out of whack. Plan to eat only ½ of what is on your plate. Alternatively, you could ask them to bring you only half, which also works. Be prepared to take things home. It’s not a shame. It’s just plain smart.
Always have the dressing on the side. Salads are great, but salad dressings are not. Be careful to control the amount that goes on your salad. The more that you are in control of what you eat, the greater your chances to staying on track.
Don’t be afraid to ask for things to be cooked without added oil, fat, or whatever else your diet requires. You are paying them after all. If they aren’t willing to try to cater to your needs, don’t go there again. The vast majority of places will be more than willing to help, but for those rare occasions, be polite, but firm. You are the boss.
